The José de Mello group continues to expand in the wine sector by acquiring quality national brands with tradition and history from North to South. The WineStone holding, launched by the group in October 2023, enters 2024 with the acquisition of Quinta de Pancas, which joins its portfolio of flagship brands such as Ravasqueira in Alentejo, Paço de Teixeiró in the Vinhos Verdes region, and in the Douro region, Quintas do Côtto and do Retiro Novo, the latter being where the iconic Krohn brand, known for its excellent Port Wines, is produced.

Founded in 1495, Quinta de Pancas is located in the municipality of Alenquer, between the Serra de Montejunto and the plains of the Tejo River. It spans 50 hectares of vineyards, situated 35 km from the Atlantic Ocean, in a sequence of hills, valleys, and plains, protected by the Serra. This exceptional terroir produces intense, complex, and elegant wines.

A pioneer in the introduction of French grape varieties in Portugal, the property is predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Touriga Nacional, Chardonnay, Arinto, and Vital varieties. According to the winemaker Gilberto Marques, “Tradition combined with innovation is the origin of the excellent wines of Quinta de Pancas.”

These wines, which have been telling their story to the world, will now continue to do so under the stewardship of WineStone.
