Grape origin: Just like Queen Maria II, who allowed the navigability of the river towards the Douro Superior, we tried to recreate this journey in this wine: rich, intense, and reflective of our adventurous spirit. We ventured up the Douro, to the sub-region of Douro Superior. Along the historic and beautiful Sabor River valley, we selected vineyards with a blend of grape varieties that reflect the freshness, density, and liveliness of this sub-region.

Winemaking and aging: Rabigato is one of the noblest varieties of the Douro, and stands out especially in the Douro Superior for its ability to maintain freshness. The floral character and great balance of Viosinho create a harmonious blend with Arinto, which is more aromatic and full-bodied. Completely made in our winery, fermentation takes place in barrels, which imparts a very well-integrated wood profile to the wine. The wine is aged in the same carefully selected French oak barrels from the best cooperages.

Quinta Vale D. Maria is a very old property in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region. A small but dedicated team of winemakers and winemakers – Sandra Tavares da Silva, Joana Pinhão and Cristiano van Zeller – try to ensure that each of the Port or Douro DOC wines represents the best that the Region has to offer. The efforts try to be characterized by innovation and differentiation. The aim is that the wines reflect personality, character, pleasure, fun, being directed towards people and the pleasure of life.
