Textura
Coming from Textura’s 28-55 year old vineyards in Vila Nova de Tazem, in the sub-region of Serra da Estrela, elevated at 480-550 m altitude, on granite soils, this white is composed of 70% Encruzado, 15% Vinhas velhas and 15% Bical and Cercial Branco.
All the vineyards have been under conversion to organic viticulture since 2020. The grapes were harvested by hand in early September. In 2020 the winter was generous in rain, with a warm February that anticipated the budding of the vines. A spring marked by a few frosts eventually reduced the amount of grapes at harvest. The summer was generally cool but marked by two weeks with very hot days and nights. For this reason and to ensure freshness, the harvest was brought forward by about 15 days and the harvest was accelerated. On average, the yield fell and in general the wines have a less fruity profile but are equally fresh and elegant.
Static decantation was carried out for 48 hours after destemming and pressing the hand-picked grapes. The must fermented naturally in used (2nd year) French oak (70%) and cement (30%) barrels. Aged for 11 months “sur lie” without batonnage, followed by 6 months in stainless steel tanks.
