O Produtor, tasting note published in May 8th 2022

It is a wine of emotion that awakens our senses;
Delicate citrus aromas combined with white stone fruit support the complex and vibrant, enigmatic aroma; the firmness granted to it by its origin in red grapes is remarkable, with gravity blending with a compact, fresh and tense body, intermingling with great precision, as great wines should be.
Classicism reconciled with modern oenology in this first edition of this wine that is sure to stay in the memory.

Quinta Nova

We climb the slopes of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo to the top. There, where the grapes ripen more slowly, retaining greater freshness and linearity, we create a new wine, a great Quinta Nova wine – a Blanc de Noir Reserva.

These are the first grapes to be harvested and which open our winery, the pleasure we get from receiving such beautiful grapes, with the perfect ripeness to obtain all the components that make this wine unique and sublime.

From them we carefully extract the white must of the red grapes, Tinta Roriz, in a very gentle pressing of the whole berries, fermentation at low temperatures (11-12 oC), first in stainless steel tanks, to protect the primary aromas and minerality, finishing 4 weeks later in French oak barrels where it matures for 6 months. This stage reinforces the tension and adds complexity.

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is a place of extreme beauty in the heart of Douro valley and owned by Amorim family since 1999.
The family connection to the wine comes from afar, through its connection with the export houses of Vila Nova de Gaia in the cork business. Meanwhile the dream came true and the project is now in the hands of the 4th generation of the family.
With a story longer than 250 years, the property displays conserved structures and the cellar original building from 1764, after interventions by the architect Arnaldo Barbosa.
But the «quinta» is much earlier than this and history confirms it as a great land belonging to the Portuguese Royal House, having been identified its first owner in 1725.
The winery produced more than 3,500 barrels of wine from neighboring estates and it was soon ‘integrated in the first demarcation of the region’. The historic sites that are still preserved give notice to this historic weight.
An entrepreneur spirit and family vision did however the difference because, combined with a passionate commitment to the future, determined the beginning of multiple changes to a path of oenological excellence.
