The firm operates 4 different vineyards, located within 5 km of the Regua in the Douro region, belonging to the family Nunes de Matos, of which the oldest is the Quinta da Varana acquired in 1685 and is also one of the oldest in the region.
In 1730, a son of the House married, and according to tradition the bride took as dowry Quinta do Torrão . That’s how the Quinta do Torrão now belongs to the family. Quinta da Fírvida and Além Tanha was purchased in 1940 while the last Quinta dos Avidagos, where the main house and the warehouse are localted was acquired in 1978. The Estates of Quinta da Firvida e Alem Tanha, Torra and Varanda are already included in the Douro Map made by the Baron Forrester in the nineteenth century. In 1999, we proceeded to build a winery with the latest technological advances that allow the production of quality wines. At the same time, the former warehouse for Ports was refurbished to serve as well resting place for our oak barrels for the barrels. Right now, Quinta dos Avidagos has a wide range of wines that goes from Avidagos White, Red and Rosé the Quinta dos Avidagos Tinto Reserva , Quinta do Além Tanha Tinto and Quinta dos Avidagos Grande Reserva Tinto. The indigenous varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, for the reds and Gouveio, or Rabigato Viosinho for white, allow us to achieve all the personality and character of the terroirs of the Douro. Combining cutting-edge winemaking with the traditional foot treading in granite mills, the aim is to produce wines with excellent value money with recognized quality worldwide, international profile and the nature of their homeland. The excellence of the wine culture, the use of traditional varieties, as well as the structural conditions of the region and the human project, has constituted the secret of success. The Douro is actually unique, singular. The wines deserve attention from critics regarding the quality and sales, both domestically and in export markets, have increased. It is the wish of the Quinta dos Avidagos also to join to the existing range of products, a Port wine in the future.
