O Produtor, tasting note published in December 12th 2022

Pale yellow color. On the nose, it presents a pleasant bouquet, highlighting citrus notes such as lemon, grapefruit, and green apple, as well as herbal notes like mint and peppermint, ending with a slight smoky and toasty undertone. In the mouth, the wine reveals itself as dry and elegant, where the purity of the fruit is well harmonized with the subtle secondary notes from barrel aging. It exhibits a pronounced acidity with a saline touch. Long finish.

Quinta de San Michel

The highly exclusive Malvarinto de Janas wine is a blend that represents a unique combination of two grape varieties: Malvasia and Arinto. Malvarinto de Janas thus benefits from the aromatic complexity, prominently present in Malvasia wine, along with the crisp acidity of Arinto. Arinto, when blended with grape varieties less rich in organic acids, as is the case with Malvasia, greatly benefits. Malvasia, when blended with Arinto, results in a distinctive typicity and personality. Malvasia + Arinto = Malvarinto.

Vinification: Grapes are hand-harvested in 20 kg buckets. Destemming and crushing of the clusters, followed by direct pressing. Decantation for 48 hours. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels for 22 days with a slight bâtonnage.

Aging: 8 months in American and French oak barrels and 28 months in the bottle.

Pairs well with grilled fish dishes, seafood, and white meats.

Quinta de San Michel

Between the ocean and the Sintra mountains, with the beautiful Pena Palace as a backdrop, Quinta de San Michel is part of the historic Colares wine-growing region.
The wines that are born on this piece of land are exclusive, full of vibrancy and freshness and are yet another reason to fall in love with the region.
Joaquim Camilo bought Quinta de San Michel, in the picturesque village of Janas, in 2003; ten years later he began planting vineyards on a total area of around 0.5 ha, where the Arinto and Malvasia grape varieties prevail. In 2014 he increased the wine area by around 1.5 ha. The first wine was placed on the market in 2016, where the arinto and malvasia varieties gave rise to a blend called Malvarinto. In 2020, Quinta de San Michel’s Arinto was named wine of the year by the prestigious Revista de Vinhos (Wine Magazine).
