O Produtor

O Produtor, tasting note published in March 27th 2024

This blend presents a pale, translucent golden hue. The aroma is potent, invigorating, subtly mineral, with white-fleshed fruits, floral hints, and oak nuances. On the palate, it is broad and reveals its full richness with a refreshing acidity and a lasting finish. Exceptional for pairing with grilled fish and poultry.

VINTAGE YEAR: The year 2023 marked a significant change compared to the previous four years, which were characterized by high temperatures and lower yields. The winter rains were a blessing, especially after the exceptionally dry conditions of 2022. These rains ensured that the vines could grow without the limitations imposed by water scarcity. The warm spring further revitalized the vines. Despite facing climatic challenges, including intense heat waves and sporadic heavy rains that sometimes interfered with the ripening process, the resilience of the vines at Quinta da Romaneira stood out. They produced high-quality grapes, allowing for the creation of exceptional white wines.

VINIFICATION: The harvest took place between September 2 and 10. 100% of this wine was fermented in French oak barrels, with the four grape varieties fermented separately for 21 days at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Malolactic fermentation was not performed, and selected yeasts were used.

AGING: 100% of this wine was fermented in French oak barrels, with 20% new, 30% used, and 50% in stainless steel tanks. Bâtonnage was carried out for three months, once a week.

Quinta da Romaneira

Romaneira is one of the great historic Quintas of the Douro Valley in Northern Portugal, on a spectacularly beautiful site overlooking the Douro river facing south, its rocky soil lending its particular character to the wines.

Recently a new and exciting chapter has been added to Romaneira’s long and illustrious story, with the emergence of Romaneira as a key player in the “Douro Revolution”: the discovery that our ancient local grape varieties can be used to make not only excellent Port wines, but increasingly also outstanding unfortified wines that are finding their place among the great wines of the world, while being an expression of our unique terroir.

We are proud of the work of our team, who, building on the experience they gained working on the renaissance of nearby Quinta do Noval, have made major improvements to the Romaneira vineyard over time.

We hope this website helps you share our excitement about Romaneira; read on to find out more about our vision for Romaneira, our wines, history, our terroir and vineyard, and the people who make these wines.
