Quinta da Romaneira
Vintage year: The 2021/2022 agricultural year was very hot and dry, with abnormally low rainfall compared to the averages of previous years and extremely high temperatures that affected the quantity and quality of the musts produced. The year was marked by low and irregular rainfall distribution throughout the vine’s vegetative cycle. Until May, 190 mm of rain fell, followed by 100 mm from May to the end of September, 64 mm of which occurred between September 12 and 15, with additional rainfall on September 29. These unexpected conditions made the grapes’ response unpredictable. Bearing this in mind, we started harvesting Boal on August 10. Surprisingly, 30% of the harvest was completed by August 30. The early harvest resulted in incredibly aromatic, balanced, and fresh wines.
Vinification: 100% of the wine is fermented in French oak barrels, 60% new, for 21 days. This is followed by 4 months of batonnage and partial malolactic fermentation. Selected yeasts are used. The three grape varieties (80% Boal, 10% Viosinho, and 10% Rabigato) are harvested and vinified separately.
Aging: Aged in barrels for four months after alcoholic fermentation. During this time, the malolactic fermentation (MLF) and batonnage are completed.
Bottling: March 2023.
