O produtor, tasting note published in August 25th 2023

Very citric and mineral aroma, notes of grapefruit, discrete exotic fruits and country flowers complexed by a strong minerality of the exclusively granitic soil, with a very discreet smokiness. Very persistent and fresh mouth with very lively citrus notes resulting in a very elegant set, with very fresh and persistent acidity.

Quinta da Pedra Escrita

The Quinta da Pedra Escrita is located in Freixo de Numão, in the Douro Superior, at an average altitude of 575 meters. The dry and arid soils are predominantly granitic, sandy, and very poor in nutrients, giving rise to wines with extremely complex aromas and great longevity, as it was in the past.

This is a tradition that we want to bring back to a world of increasingly stereotyped wines, emphasizing the unique character of high-altitude white wines from the Douro region.

Vinification: Manual harvest in small perforated boxes of 15 kg, cold fermentation technology, in a reductive environment, with controlled temperature around 16ºC. The grapes are pressed without crushing and destemming under an inert atmosphere in order to preserve all their aromatic potential. The entire wine ferments in used French oak barrels and remains there after a small racking on fine lees with periodic stirring “battonage” until the final blend is made in late spring.

Aging: Fermentation and aging for 6 months, after which it aged in the bottle for 4 months.

The white wine Quinta da Pedra Escrita has great gastronomic versatility and pairs exceptionally well with semi-cured sheep cheeses, fatty and smoked fish, and seafood.

Rui Roboredo Madeira Vinhos

In one of the most remote areas of the Iberian Peninsula, on the border between the Douro Superior and Beira Alta regions, it was among family that its passion grew for the aromas and smells of this land that shapes our character.
After coming into contact with many cultures of living and making wine, in various parts of the globe, Rui Madeira returned to the great Douro valley convinced that they have the potential to make the best wines in the world.
Out of respect for nature, due to the way we cultivate their vineyards and wines reflect his experiences, which smell and taste of land, of schist, damp granite, rock rose, wild flowers and fruit.
It is in the winery that he makes wines with the character of our ‘terroir’, expressed through native grape varieties, which instil with a style of their own and an international profile.
