Bacalhôa
White wine fermented with skins in the ancestral style, in lagares, which gives it body and the ability to enhance aging. In this style of wines, its color evolves into darker shades, thus it is generally referred to as “Orange Wine.”
The Bacalhôa Greco di Tufo comes from the first Portuguese vineyard of this grape variety, which is native to Ancient Rome, where it was famous for its aphrodisiac properties.
The Greco grapes are planted in the Faias plains on the Setúbal Peninsula. The 2023 harvest shows good natural acidity, with a very floral, mineral, and aromatic profile due to the climatic conditions of the growing year, with slightly late grape maturations that favored the quality of this variety. They were harvested on August 31, 2023. After a pre-fermentation maceration, the grapes were gently pressed, and the must fermented very slowly at controlled temperature. It aged on its fine lees for five months, imparting creaminess and a long finish on the palate. The final blend was made on March 5, 2024, taking advantage of the “explosion” of aromas and freshness characteristic of freshly fermented wines, and it was bottled on May 20, 2024.
A good accompaniment for various types of dishes, such as soups, fish dishes, and even light meats and spicier cuisines, thanks to its body and aromatic complexity.
