Pires & Turner – The beginning.
At Quinta de Alvites, Baião, in the south-east of the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region, already in the middle of the Douro Valley, the Pires & Turner project is born, proposing a modern approach to one of the most exciting Portuguese wines – Vinho Verde.
The Pires & Turner Project was born from the dream of a Portuguese-American couple who, while working in Africa, decided to acquire Quinta de Alvites, in an impoverished region of Northern Portugal, with the dream of creating a sustainable green wine production platform that would promote the socio-economic development of this municipality.
In a transition zone between Vinhos Verdes and the Douro, and with the river as an influence and backdrop, the hillside vineyards, on granite soils, face high thermal amplitudes, in a terroir of excellence for the Avesso variety, originating unique wines, unparalleled in any other region, which are characterised by their freshness and minerality, but also by the potential for evolution.
Becky & João
From an early age, and despite having different academic backgrounds, both have shown a passion for sustainable community and economic development, having integrated several international projects both in humanitarian health missions and in the area of humanitarian management and logistics with social impact, so the diversity of experiences, personal and professional paths that they have accumulated in their lives place them in a privileged position to create an innovative project in the Baião region and the consequent valorisation of the interior. The promoters intend that Pires & Turner wine not only brings joy to the final consumers of a product of excellence but also to the local producers and collaborators who have worked hard for the success of this wine!
