Quinta da Furada
Furada is a farm that has belonged to the same family for at least seven generations. The present descendants are the trinkets of its heir Valério Augusto de Sousa, who saw his first son born in the house, in 1919, still inhabited today. Born in 1888, he often said that his wife had inherited from his grandparents the present houses with vineyards and olive groves surrounding them, but to which, and by the will of Phylloxera, he added another 24 sorts, by buying from 24 small neighboring landowners, then disappointed with the effects of this almost fatal disease for the Douro.
Thus enlarging Quinta da Furada which has since remained one, keeping secrets, stories, flavours and mysteries. Proof of the search for the unveiling of the secrets of this farm, and what ended up giving it its name, were the holes found in the property that denote the search for wolfram, still from Roman times.
