O Produtor, tasting note published in October 23rd 2020

Pata D`Urso White 2019 is a young wine as the year indicates. On the nose, it has a complex aroma. Mineral, with ripe fruit and a slight toasted touch, whatever gives it elegance. On the palate, very ripe fruit, very voluminous and elegant, with a natural acidity that keeps us a long, balanced and persistent finish.

Pata D´Urso

Our team’s challenge was more demanding, as we were discovering new production realities. New parcels of old white grape varieties, planted at Quinta da Furada, in Ervedosa do Douro. In mostly schist soils, with various exposures and variations of altitudes, he added a deeper work of knowledge in order to try to understand the different
characteristics and evolution of the maturations that each plot was showing. After a manual harvest with a careful selection of the grapes, they were transported to the winery where they were crushed and destemmed, with a long and gentle pressing. Then the must was decanted for 24 hours at low temperatures. Fermentation took place in a stainless steel vat with controlled temperature. Then
of this phase, part of the lot was aged in 600 litre French oak barrels and the rest was aged in stainless steel.

Quinta da Furada

Furada is a farm that has belonged to the same family for at least seven generations. The present descendants are the trinkets of its heir Valério Augusto de Sousa, who saw his first son born in the house, in 1919, still inhabited today. Born in 1888, he often said that his wife had inherited from his grandparents the present houses with vineyards and olive groves surrounding them, but to which, and by the will of Phylloxera, he added another 24 sorts, by buying from 24 small neighboring landowners, then disappointed with the effects of this almost fatal disease for the Douro.
Thus enlarging Quinta da Furada which has since remained one, keeping secrets, stories, flavours and mysteries. Proof of the search for the unveiling of the secrets of this farm, and what ended up giving it its name, were the holes found in the property that denote the search for wolfram, still from Roman times.
