Olho de Mocho
The oldest vineyard of Herdade do Rocim has always been affectionately called “Olho de Mocho,” as it is abundant in this spontaneous flower, scientifically named Tolpis barbata. Being special, it could only give rise to a unique and authentic wine that we now designate as “Olho de Mocho Single Vineyard.”
It is in this old vineyard that the Antão Vaz grape variety is found, on a plot with a slight east exposure and with rows oriented north-south.
The climate is typically Mediterranean, in the viticultural sub-region of Vidigueira where the climatic conditions are the mildest in Alentejo, providing an optimal microclimate for the production of high-quality wines. The soils are unproductive, sandy-loam of granitic origin. Great pedological potential for vine cultivation and obtaining excellent wines.
Vinification: Manual harvest in 12 kg crates, during the night of August 19, 2022. After a 24-hour period of cold skin maceration, fermentation took place in 500 L French oak barrels and in cement tanks, for a period of 20 days at a controlled temperature. At the end of fermentation, the wine underwent daily batonnage. Aging in cement tanks and French oak barrels for a period of nine months.
Viticulture: Catarina Vieira and Amândio Cruz.
Enology: Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro.
