O Produtor, tasting note published in April 27th 2024

This Redoma is an excellent example of the Douro's potential to make fresh, direct and uncomplicated whites, while not neglecting the complexity characteristic of the Douro's old vines, terroir and mica schist soils.
The nose starts subtle and delicate; with nuances of citrus and fresh herbs, and soon evolves to notes of hazelnuts and pear.
In the mouth it is structured and has excellent acidity. The finish is long and almost spicy. This classic Douro white is an excellent example of balance and ageing potential.

Niepoort

The grapes for Redoma Branco come from old vines aged between 65 and 85 years old, on the right bank of the Douro River, located at an altitude ranging from 400 to 600 meters. In these vineyards, Micaxisto soils prevail, which, combined with the complexity of the typical Douro grape blend, give rise to delicate wines with freshness and minerality.

2023 was an excellent year for the production of white wines, with concentration and medium to high acidity, as well as high yield. Harvesting began on August 14th. After careful selection on the sorting table, gentle pressing and cold settling for 24 hours followed. Alcoholic fermentation occurred spontaneously in French oak barrels of 228 and 500 liters, where it rested for about 8 months.

Pair Redoma Branco with oysters, baked fish, poultry, and white meats. Or vegetarian suggestions like dishes with root vegetables (turnip, sweet potato, beetroot), Caesar salad, and cheese dishes.

Niepoort Vinhos

The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).
