O Produtor, tasting note published in November 12th 2022
The Quinta da Lomba Garrafeira White 2016 is distinguished by its vitality, elegance, and acidity. This wine originates from the old vines of Quinta da Lomba, a magical place on the slopes of the Serra da Estrela. The nose reflects the structure and complexity of Dão, placing its whites in the world-class category of serious wines. Notes of pineapple, apricot, and citrus are revealed along with a slightly smoky character, very well-integrated wood, and hints of vanilla pod. On the palate, it is impressive. Elegant yet structured, saline, and spicy. The acidity recalls the granite soils, giving it freshness in a persistent and complex finish. A very serious and distinctive white wine that will evolve beautifully in the bottle; to be enjoyed in Burgundy-style glasses.
The Quinta da Lomba White 2016 carries within it the full potential of Dão grape varieties and clearly expresses the excellence of its century-old vines. In the first tasting, it was defined as a special wine. It aged for four years in wood and two years in the bottle to become a Garrafeira Dão. Details on the label reveal the cover crops present in each of the vineyards, identifiable only because no herbicides are used.
The viticultural year 2016 was marked by a mild winter, but with very high precipitation levels in spring, extending into early summer; however, no damage was done to the vines. Harvest began only on September 12, late due to the delayed grape ripening; carried out without precipitation, it allowed for improved grape concentration. The wine was vinified in granite tanks with temperature control and after fermentation, it aged for four years in an old barrel and two years in the bottle.
It pairs wonderfully with cod and fatty fish.

The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).
