Mater-Dôme

Region: Mêda (Upper Douro) – 600 m altitude.
Soil: Transition between schist and granite.

The Mêda region is experiencing a revival. Back in the 1950s and 1960s, its wines were well-known and popular in the old restaurants of Porto, alongside Vinho Verde and Mature Wines. Our relationship with Mêda began in 2003, and since then, we have been dedicating special attention to this region, working to showcase its wines. This once-famous terroir is now somewhat overshadowed within the vast DOC Douro area but holds extraordinary potential.

Located between the Dão and Douro regions, Mêda combines characteristics of both. With soils transitioning between schist and granite and altitudes reaching up to 700 m, the region enjoys a unique climate: higher rainfall than the rest of the Upper Douro, milder summers, and harsher winters.

Vinification and Aging: The grapes are destemmed and directly pressed. Fermentation and part of the aging occur in 700-liter barrels, with the remainder in cement tanks.
