O Produtor, tasting note published in August 26th 2022

Lemon yellow color. White-fleshed fruits, such as medlar and citrus, stand out in a fine aroma wrapped in slightly smoky notes. With good structure and volume, acidity completes the silky, enveloping, and voluptuous mouthfeel. Fruity flavors linger on the finish, making it very long and persistent. A solid and dominant wine.

Marquesa de Alorna

The Marquesa de Alorna Grande Reserva Blanc, signed by Marta Reis Simões, results from unique weather conditions and the selection of the best grape varieties each year. It pays homage to Leonor de Almeida Portugal de Lorena e Lencastre (1750-1839), the fourth Marquise of Alorna, a Portuguese poet from the 18th century and one of the most remarkable voices of pre-romanticism in Portugal. Possessing a refined literary and scientific culture, an active woman involved in political and cultural life, she encouraged the emergence of new aesthetic ideas.

Coming from a blend of four grape varieties cultivated between the Tejo heathland and its transition zone with the plains, it benefited from the weather conditions of the year 2019, which resulted in slow and balanced ripening and, in turn, wines with a perfect balance between natural acidity and must sugar content.

For its production, grapes were manually and separately harvested in 18kg crates, destemmed, and pressed in long and low-pressure cycles in the morning. After the musts clarification, fermentation begins in new French oak barrels of 225 or 300 liters, remaining on fine lees for 10 months with batonnage. The best barrels are selected, and the blend is made with 50% of other grape varieties aging in stainless steel. After bottling, the wine ages in the bottle for at least one year.

“It drinks well on its own, but it is at the table, with cheeses, cod, grilled fatty fish, or white meats, that it can shine the best. It also retains the distinction common to all great wines: it has the potential to age in the cellar.” In the Publico Newspaper
