We are organic wine producers from the Dão Region, specializing in unique Portuguese grape varieties.
Our estate, registered since 1897, is located between Nabais and S. Paio de Gouveia, on the slopes of Serra da Estrela, within the Natural Park. Covering about 25 hectares, with 15 hectares of 23-year-old vines and 10 hectares of new plantings, we have adopted an innovative vertical planting strategy. The white grape varieties include Malvasia, Encruzado, Gouveio (Verdelho), Cerceal, and Barcelo, while the reds are Jaen, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and Alfrocheiro.
Since 1992, we have worked with Quinta dos Roques to vinify our grapes, with an annual production of around 100,000 liters, split between white wine (one-third) and red wine (two-thirds). The wines, under the brands Maias, Quinta das Maias, and Flor das Maias, are bottled only when they meet the quality required by the most demanding consumers. Our white wine, with strong minerality and floral character, has good aging potential, while the red, with the robustness of mountain vineyards and the elegance of the Jaen grape, has already won national and international awards.
We were pioneers in producing varietal wines in the Dão, with Jaen red and Malvasia Fina white, fermented in French oak barrels. Since then, we have expanded our range with Verdelho and Barcelo varietals, being the only producer of Barcelo in the region. In 2007, we adopted organic viticulture, and in 2012, we began producing certified organic wines.
