MM55 Dry Furmint represents freshness, great complexity, and structure with a unique individual character.
A reinterpretation of Dry Furmint from Tokaj, one of the great – yet forgotten – wine regions of the world, whose importance dates back to the 16th century and has been praised by kings, popes, tsars, writers, and gourmets over the centuries. Tokaj wines were luxury wines, considered a sign of wealth.
The Tokaj region today consists of approximately 5,500 hectares of vineyards spread across 27 villages. The microclimate determined by volcanic clay or loess soils, sunny southern slopes, and the Tisza and Bodrog rivers provide favorable conditions for the development of native grape varieties like Furmint; a grape variety with enormous potential for extended aging.
Viticulture: Harvested from highly regarded vineyards classified as PDO of Szent Tamás, Nyúlászó, and Király, where soils are composed of volcanic rocks and clay minerals from the South-Zemplén Mountains, primarily zeolite and rhyolite.
Winemaking: Fermented and aged for 8 months in 300 L Hungarian oak barrels (70% new oak) with varying levels of toasting, to enhance the wines’ complexity. With vanilla notes that temper the vivid acidity of Furmint and seamlessly blend with the considerable mineral and extract of this cuvée.
Highly gastronomic, this wine pairs wonderfully with grilled lobster, pork belly, and even Moroccan tagine.
