Robert Parker, tasting note published in January 18th 2014

In the same league and from one of the hottest terroirs in the Hermitage Hills, the 2011 Ermitage Le Meal Blanc is a huge effort that has overflowing amounts of tropical fruits, white flowers, creme brulee, buttery peaches, liquorice and a surprisingly liquid rock-like minerality. Full-bodied, voluptuous and stunning whatever it looks like, it can also be enjoyed anytime for the next 3-4 decades (99/100). The 2011 Ermitage Cuvee de l'Oree comes from a lieu-dit known as Les Murets planted with 80-90 year old Marsanne vines. The bouquet offers aromas of Asian spices, lychee nuts, white currant liqueur and peach and apricot marmalade. This stunning, honeyed, flamboyant white is perfection in a glass. Drink it for the next half century (100/100).

This special edition, two-piece wooden collector’s box comes directly from the cellars of the Rhone’s legendary Michel Chapoutier. Made from two parcels, Terrasses de Galets and Plaine des Murets are also vinified in individual cuvees. In this vintage, however, Michel identified the parcels as being of undisputed and exceptional quality, thus deciding to set aside a few barrels to blend as a late-release micro-selection box, of which only 300 are available worldwide. If the lieu-dits Terrasses de Galets and Plaine des Murets sound familiar, it may be because these are the same vineyards from which the famous Selection Parcellaires, Le Meal Blanc and L’Oree Blanc come out. Each was a resounding success in 2011, both earning a score of 99 points with Rhone aficionado Jeb Dunnuck, as well as Robert Parker. As indicated by the price, intact cases of these wines are sold with increasing premiums for the case of the current vintage.
