James Suckling, tasting note published in January 6th 2019
This wine has beautiful purity with striking aromas of lemons and limes, as well as fresh yellow grapefruit and a strong, wet stone edge. The palate has immense power with precision and focus, delivering a superb long finish with such power and length. Three hectares in Corton with 1.8 planted with white grapes.
In general, Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru is produced in the same climate (“En Charlemagne”) as Charlemagne Grand Cru. The soil is relatively sloping and composed of very white limestone marl. The soil is brown limestone with sandstone slopes. The subsoil is mainly marl and limestone. The soil is well drained and warms up easily (south facing). The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then gently pressed and fermented in our cooperage barrels, a third of which are new. The wine is aged for about 15 months on fine lees before being prepared for bottling.
