O Produtor, tasting note published in December 1st 2023

Color: Medium-intensity yellow. Aromas with notes of citrus, baked apple, anise, and honey. Medium-bodied, with a sweet-and-sour profile, very fresh and pleasant. With aging, the wine evolves, losing its initial freshness but gaining complexity with toasted notes of dried fruits, iodine, wax, and hay.

Infinitude

Project: Created by the Osório de Vasconcelos Jardim Gonçalves family, located on the northern foothills of the Serra de Sintra, 5 km from the Atlantic Ocean and 25 km from Lisbon.

Vineyards and Terroir: Under the influence of a unique microclimate, marked by the Serra de Sintra and its strong proximity to the Atlantic, the vines of the indigenous ‘Malvasia de Colares’ variety grow on sandy dune soils, phylloxera-free, ungrafted, and just steps away from the steep cliffs of Colares. This terroir, the westernmost in mainland Europe, imparts unique characteristics to the wine.

Climate and Management: A climate strongly influenced by the Atlantic, with moderate summer temperatures, frequent fog formation, and high relative humidity due to the Serra de Sintra. The vines are managed freely, with low trailing canes, and cultivated extensively with minimal interventions.

Winemaking and Aging: Harvest occurs at the end of September. After destemming, the grapes are pressed with a slight 6-hour skin maceration. The must is cooled to 6ºC and settles statically overnight. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for 16 days at a controlled temperature of 15-16ºC. The wine rests for 12 months in tanks with bâtonnage, followed by 7 months in second-use French oak barrels. Bottled in December 2023.

Winemaker: Francisco Figueiredo.

Aging Potential: Up to 15 years.

Pairings: Ideal for sophisticated and spiced fish dishes. Suggestions: white fish carpaccio with mustard, cockle rice with coriander, sole meunière, or stewed peas with mint. Serve at 12ºC.

Technical Details: Alcohol: 12.0% alc/Vol | Total acidity: 5.6 g/L | Volatile acidity: 0.60 g/L | pH: 3.40 | Free/total SO2: 20/115 mg/L | Residual sugar: < 1.5 g/L.

Infinitude

Like a life, a wine is also the visible result of an infinity of events. It is a living work, never finished, always evolving. This is how the wines were born in Quinta da Azenha in Colares, in the vineyards of the Osorio family of Vasconcelos Jardim Gonçalves. This is a family project, fruit of the desire to give continuity to the memory of generations producing wine with roots in Madeira and Douro. And that now extends to the millennial region of Colares, one of the oldest in Portugal, whose origin goes back to 1255, when D. Afonso III started the first vines from France. Cultivated in the recovery of the Sintra mountain range, the Pinot Noir and Merlot castes find a microclimate protected from the Atlantic winds, with dewy mornings and mist-tempered summers. Planted in “hard ground” soil, they are harvested separately and the grapes are carefully vinified by the classic “tanning” process. The stage is followed in small oak barrels in the mythical Colares Cooperative Winery. The result is dry, delicate wines with salty notes. Full of complexity and freshness, with great potential for bottle aging. An elegant invitation to celebrate, enjoy or simply contemplate on a multitude of occasions.
