O Produtor, tasting note published in June 27th 2023

The robe's sparkling youthfulness give it eye-catching bright green highlights. At first this Riesling’s aromas are dashing, well-stated and floral, opening with hints of lily of the valley, elderflower and lively citrus zest. With age it takes on rocky hints of flint, tinder, hydrocarbons. The perfectly dry flavour detonates with life, energy and a clearly stated attack that remains without greenness and opens up the appetite. Lemon, lime and yusu zest roll around the mouth right up to the acidic, delicate and addictive final note.

Hugel

This is the signature wine of Famille Hugel. This dry Riesling stands out for its finesse and sincerity, making it the ideal partner for fish and seafood, thanks to its wonderful balance and elegance.

In the vineyard: Riesling is the Pinot Noir of white wines! It is our most demanding variety, as it is also the last to ripen. Produced exclusively from hand-harvested grapes from 30-year-old vines planted in predominantly clay and limestone soils, in the most favored locations in and around Riquewihr. Dry and elegant, it expresses itself best on our steepest slopes, with the most complex minerality.

Winemaking: The grapes are transported in small boxes to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention. After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours and then fermented in temperature-controlled barrels or tanks (at 18 to 24 °C). The wine is racked only once, before natural clarification during the winter. The following spring, the wine is lightly filtered before bottling, and the bottles are then aged in our cellars until released for sale. The entire production of this wine is sealed with DIAM, the cork that eliminates the risk of cork taint.

Ideal for pairing with dishes such as fish ceviche, mackerel, pickled herring, seafood, shrimp carpaccio, scallops, marinated salmon, smoked trout, goat cheese, and charcuterie. If served after two years, it pairs well with creamy sauces, gratinated seafood, cooked poultry, and vol-au-vent.

Famille Hugel

Hugel & Fils was founded in 1639 in the picturesque town of Riquewihr, Alsace, France. It is a 100% family owned company and is currently managed by the 12th generation.
The family owns a 28 hectare property with top quality vineyards in Riquewihr, part of the same classified “Grand Cru” and they also buy grapes from 121 hectares of vineyards under contract from producers. The Hugel estates are planted solely with noble varieties from Alsace, with some vineyards reaching 35 years of age.
Hugel produces around 110,000 cases of wine per year, 90% of which is exported to over 100 countries in the world, to whom ‘Alsace’ is generally synonymous with ‘Hugel’.
Vineyards have been grown in Alsace for over 2000 years, which has brought much prosperity to the region. Alsace has a unique climate, it is the second driest region in France, which allows grapes to ripen slowly and produce dry and aromatic wines, elegant and of unparalleled intensity: a perfect combination to accompany any dish of Asian and Western cuisine.
Hugel wines, with their characteristic yellow labels, present the pure character of the mono grape varieties Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Pinot Blanc, without the need to resort to wooden stages or the addition of sugar.
