O Produtor, tasting note published in September 27th 2022

A bright colour with clear legs that herald what is to come, the aromas rapidly announcing that this is a very charming and almost heady wine. Delicate floral notes of rose and jasmine interact with hints of yellow fruit: peach, Mirabelle and tropical fruit: lychee, mango, dragon fruit. The bouquet is expressive but not overly so; it retains a sense of refinement and nuance, a true Hugel wine.
On the palate it is fine and delicate, not too weak; it invites you to travel afar and enjoy it with strong flavoured dishes. The precision of the final note could even lead some of its detractors to become reconciled with this strong-headed grape variety.

Hugel

The spice of Alsace and one of Famille Hugel’s signature wines. It is both aromatic and extroverted through its floral and spicy notes. Gewurztraminer is an invitation to accompany a variety of spicy Asian dishes as well as smoked salmon and strong cheeses.

Originally from northern Italy, this is the emblematic grape of our region due to its slow maturation with cool nights giving its full varietal expression. Dry but intensely aromatic.

In the vineyard: The grapes are taken in small tubs to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention.
Age of vines : 43 years old
Yield : 59 hl/ha hL/ha

Winemaking: After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled barrels or vats (at 18 to 24°C). The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification during the course of the winter. The following spring, the wine is lightly filtered just before bottling, and the bottles are then aged in our cellars until released for sale.
The whole production of this wine is closed with DIAM the cork without the risk of cork taint.

Famille Hugel

Hugel & Fils was founded in 1639 in the picturesque town of Riquewihr, Alsace, France. It is a 100% family owned company and is currently managed by the 12th generation.
The family owns a 28 hectare property with top quality vineyards in Riquewihr, part of the same classified “Grand Cru” and they also buy grapes from 121 hectares of vineyards under contract from producers. The Hugel estates are planted solely with noble varieties from Alsace, with some vineyards reaching 35 years of age.
Hugel produces around 110,000 cases of wine per year, 90% of which is exported to over 100 countries in the world, to whom ‘Alsace’ is generally synonymous with ‘Hugel’.
Vineyards have been grown in Alsace for over 2000 years, which has brought much prosperity to the region. Alsace has a unique climate, it is the second driest region in France, which allows grapes to ripen slowly and produce dry and aromatic wines, elegant and of unparalleled intensity: a perfect combination to accompany any dish of Asian and Western cuisine.
Hugel wines, with their characteristic yellow labels, present the pure character of the mono grape varieties Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Pinot Blanc, without the need to resort to wooden stages or the addition of sugar.
