Evel
Evel is one of the oldest and most charismatic wine brands in Portugal, having been registered in 1913. The curiosity of its fantasy name comes from the fact that it does not have its own meaning, other than that which results from reading its anagram: Leve.
The intention, a century ago, was to invoke its organoleptic characteristics through a pun, which, incidentally, have prevailed to this day – an elegant, smooth wine with a pleasant taste – invariably present on the official menus of the Portuguese Republic at the time.
Evel became famous from the 1950s onwards, undoubtedly due to the status of “supplier to the Presidency of the Republic” attributed to Real Vinícola, as a producing company, proudly displayed on its labels.
Evel Branco wine is produced from vineyards planted at Quinta do Casal da Granja and Quinta do Cidrô, located in the municipalities of Alijó and S. João da Pesqueira, respectively. These two locations benefit from a cool climate that allows for the slow ripening of grapes and the production of aromatic wines with soft tannins. Evel Branco presents a citrus color with a characteristic natural brightness of whites from the region.
