Dr. Loosen
This wine is produced exclusively with fruit from estate vineyards located in red slate soils in the villages of Ürzig, Erden, Lösnich, and Kinheim.
Red slate, less common than blue slate, is mainly found in the vineyards of Ürzig, Erden, and Kinheim. The red slate soil, rich in iron, produces wines with a rich, spicy, and complex taste with intense mineral flavors. The stony slate soil reflects sunlight onto the grapes during the day while storing much of the heat.
The vines are cultivated specifically for the production of dry wine. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in 3,000-liter neutral oak casks. Extended lees contact allows the wine to develop a naturally harmonious balance and greater complexity.
“Intense and concentrated, but pure and fresh on the intensely fruity and slatey but still yeasty nose. Medium-bodied, creamy textured and charming, it is round and clear on the elegant and juicy palate, with tropical flavors. And for the moment, it is still rich yet refined and elegant, with mouthwatering salinity on the finish.” – Wine Advocate, August 2020
