Dr. Loosen
The term “Tradition” refers to wines that are vinified according to classic and traditional methods predating the 1971 wine law. The Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Tradition revives the classic and naturally fruity Kabinett, Spätlese, and Auslese from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, with limited residual sweetness. Ernst Loosen’s maternal grandfather stored these wines for up to 2 years in the Fuder barrel on lees before bottling, a tradition that Ernst maintains. In addition to dramatically restricting the harvest size, rigorously selecting the fruits, and employing gentle practices in the cellar to allow the wine to develop its full potential with minimal handling, creating world-class wines.
Born in the multicolored slate soil; this stony soil and the numerous rocky formations in the Mosel warm the vineyards by reflecting sunlight and retaining the day’s heat, creating very warm microclimates in the best locations and helping ensure excellent ripening. After maturing for 2 years in Fuder, this wine ages in the bottle before being released.
