John Gilman, tasting note published in April 12th 2019

The estate's 2018 Hermannshöhle Spätlese has no intention of being outdone by the Brücke this year, as this too is a brilliant wine. The nose leaps out of the glass in a complex glow of fresh pineapple, pungent citrus peel, apple, a lovely slate base, wild yeasts and a top note of white flowers. On the palate, the wine is pure, complex, medium-full and beautifully smooth on the attack, with a superb underlying mineral layer and a laser, electric finish.

Dönnhoff

The Dönnhoff winery, located in Oberhausen in the Nahe, is one of the flagships of German viticulture, both nationally and internationally. Wine production is in the blood of the Dönnhoff family. The history of viticulture in the Dönnhoff family began more than 250 years ago.

This tradition was continued by future generations. Among them was grandfather Hermann Dönnhoff Senior, who had a great passion for Riesling and therefore paid great attention to winemaking and buying the best vineyards in the region. He not only made German wine known internationally through his winery, but also created a high status for it in the international wine trade.

Weingut Dönnhoff

The Dönnhoff Family is proud to call Oberhausen an der Nahe its home. Running from Niederhausen to Schloßböckelheim, the majestic landscapes of the Nahe Valley have dominated them for over 250 years. The first official mention of the Dönnhoff name dates back to 1761; the family history book itself details the early flowering of 1781 and the grape harvest of 1784. Helmut Dönnhoff’s grandfather laid the cornerstone for the estate’s success. From the outset Hermann Dönnhoff (1880-1953) concentrated on planting Riesling vines in award-winning vineyards, and by the 1920s was filling his wines in bottles and selling the best of them by their individual vineyard names.
