Stephan Reinhardt, tasting note published in July 16th 2021

The Kreuznach 2020 Krötenpfuhl GG is from gravel-quartzite soils and opens with light, fresh, ripe and elegant fruit on the nose. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a full-bodied, lush Riesling with a fine phenolic grip on the savoury, spicy finish. The 2020 Riesling is a long and substantial Riesling with ripe fruit expression and terroir vitality.

Dönnhoff

The Weinberg Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl faces south and offers its vineyards a wonderfully sunny microclimate. Not far from Nahe, this location has strongly shaped the extraordinary reputation of the winery and the entire region.

The grapes for the Dönnhoff Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Riesling Grosses Gewächs come from a recultivated area of this site, where the vines are now 25 to 30 years old. After selective handwork, the winegrowers develop the Riesling in wooden and stainless steel barrels.

Weingut Dönnhoff

The Dönnhoff Family is proud to call Oberhausen an der Nahe its home. Running from Niederhausen to Schloßböckelheim, the majestic landscapes of the Nahe Valley have dominated them for over 250 years. The first official mention of the Dönnhoff name dates back to 1761; the family history book itself details the early flowering of 1781 and the grape harvest of 1784. Helmut Dönnhoff’s grandfather laid the cornerstone for the estate’s success. From the outset Hermann Dönnhoff (1880-1953) concentrated on planting Riesling vines in award-winning vineyards, and by the 1920s was filling his wines in bottles and selling the best of them by their individual vineyard names.
