It was on the cliffs of the Douro Valley that the world’s oldest wine denomination of origin was born, demarcated and legislated in 1756 under the direct influence of the Marquis of Pombal. These cliffs, adorned with vineyards uniquely arranged in terraces and steps, give the region a unique and unmistakable landscape, classified as a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2001.
Although particularly difficult to work with, these soils, besides being excellent for the longevity of the vines, allow for the production of very concentrated and unique wines.
