Covela
Quinta de Covela practices organic farming on granite soils that form a natural amphitheater facing south. The landscape consists of terraces planted at low altitudes on the right bank of the Douro River, in the southern part of the Vinho Verde region (Minho).
Cold winters and hot, dry summers – at the crossroads between the continental climate of the Douro Valley and the maritime influence of the Douro Litoral. Harvests are organized by vineyard plots to ensure grapes are picked at their optimal moment.
Covela Branco, formerly known as Escolha Branco, is perhaps the iconic white wine of Covela. It is a blend full of character, with Avesso (the main grape variety of the Baião sub-region and Covela) as its foundation, Chardonnay, and a few other “seasonings” selected by winemaker Rui Cunha, who has been part of the Covela project since 1990.
