Covela
COVELA Avesso Natur is our first Avesso that is not only certified organic, but also bottled without added sulphites. This wine is a testament to Covela’s continued commitment to innovation and to maximising the potential of the Avesso variety, which originates from the granitic soils on the banks of the Douro where Covela is located. This is the second certified organic wine from the quinta, following the launch of Covela Avesso Reserva Biológico in 2019. In COVELA Avesso Natur, the sulphites normally used to stabilise wines have been replaced by dried chestnut flower (Castanea sativa Mill.) harvested from Covela’s chestnut trees and prepared by hand by our viticulture and oenology teams. Starting with the 2020 harvest, we select a small batch of grapes from our lower Campo Fundeiro parcel, which we then ferment and age in our oldest oak barrels in an attempt to replicate the more traditional winemaking methods of our region.
