Carlos Agrellos, tasting note published in March 6th 2024

This wine displays pure and charming aromas of citrus, peach, and white-fleshed fruits. On the palate, it shows a fresh and elegant expression, with subtle oak notes behind the refined citrus fruit. A touch of peach and apricot adds depth, while grapefruit lends a vibrant character. Structured and full of flavour, the finish is long and refined.

Cedro do Noval

Cedro de Noval, named after the iconic tree that overlooks the terrace of Quinta do Noval, is a true expression of the Douro. It is produced from carefully selected grapes grown on the highest terraces of Quinta do Noval, in the heart of the Douro Valley, northern Portugal.

Quinta do Noval

The property, with 145 hectares dominating the Pinhão Valley, is the soul and essence of Quinta do Noval. The soil is essentially composed of schist rock, making all vineyard work particularly difficult. Quinta do Noval replanted, since 1994, 100 hectares of vineyard with the noblest grape varieties of the Douro region, adapting pruning methods to the typology of the plots. The plots were replanted in batches of a single variety, each one chosen according to the characteristics of each parcel of land: altitude, sun exposure, and vine planting type.

Today, plots planted with mixed grape varieties are progressively disappearing from the Douro Valley. Noval was a pioneer in this trend, being the first to replant vineyards while conserving intact the magnificent traditional terraces with their walls of schist stone.

Quinta do Noval is the only historic Port wine shipper to bear the name of its estate. The identity of Quinta do Noval is rooted in its terroir.

The consistency of style of Quinta do Noval’s Vintage Ports over the decades is one of the particularities of Quinta do Noval in the world of Port. Consistency simply because all Vintage Ports come from a single vineyard, a magical place.

The place is so beautiful, so remarkable, that the idea of being part of something greater than us, that existed before us, and will exist after us, is always present. The notion of continuity is fundamental: our obligation to the past, our responsibility in the present for the vineyard and its wines, and our obligations to future generations who will tend the vineyard and produce wine as we do today.
