O Produtor, tasting note published in November 8th 2020

Life is a heritage of experiences, affections, memories, and emotions. The wine "Património Colheita Selecionada" was created to celebrate the birth of a new generation in Vinhos Bonifácio. Made from Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, and Syrah grape varieties, it is a wine of superior quality, featuring an intense garnet color, elegant and fruity aroma, harmoniously combined with the wood notes from aging in French and American oak barrels. Its mouthfeel and concentration reveal the ultimate expression of the Lisbon Region's terroir. Grapes from the best and oldest vineyards in our region, combined with the ancient knowledge of our winemaking, made this precious wine possible.

Caves Bonifácio

The red wine Caves Bonifácio Património Colheita Selecionada is a Regional Lisbon wine.

The production of Caves Bonifácio wines begins with a careful selection of grapes. Once harvested, they are unloaded into vats, marking the starting point of two parallel production lines—one for white grapes and another for red grapes.

The red grapes, after destemming and crushing, are transferred to fermentation tanks, undergoing a cold maceration process, followed by controlled-temperature fermentation with pump-overs to extract compounds.

Maceration and fermentation proceed for the necessary duration to achieve the desired color for our wines: an intense ruby red.

António Francisco Bonifácio e Filhos, Lda.

A family-owned company with 60 years of history and dedication to wine.

Founded in January 1964, António Francisco Bonifácio e Filhos, Lda. continues the work of its founder, António Francisco Bonifácio, who, from a young age, dedicated himself to cultivating vineyards and producing high-quality wines. For more than 40 years, he managed the business with a clear vision: to achieve the highest quality in his products while meeting the demands of an ever-evolving market.

The following generations have preserved this commitment, maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation. Values such as dedication, respect for the terroir, and a constant pursuit of excellence remain at the core of the company’s philosophy.

Located in the Lisbon wine region, north of the Tagus River, this is one of Portugal’s most prolific areas, comprising ten sub-regions, including Torres Vedras, the municipality with the largest wine production in the country. With fertile soils, a mild climate, and an average annual rainfall of 700 mm, the natural conditions favor the production of unique wines.

In our vineyards, grape varieties such as Castelão (or Periquita), Tinta Miúda, and Alicante Bouschet stand out. Cultivated in clay-limestone soils with low fertility, the grapes mature under conditions that enhance the concentration of tannins, essential for structured wines with great aging potential.

Every step of the cultivation process is carried out with extreme care. Winter and summer pruning ensure the quality of the grapes, and before harvesting, some leaves are removed to maximize the quality of the remaining fruit. Although this reduces vineyard yields, this approach ensures grapes with the ideal acidity and tannic structure for producing exceptional wines.
