O Produtor, tasting note published in May 20th 2023

Very intense and mineral, with citrus and floral notes well-integrated with aromas from barrel fermentation and excellent wood integration. On the palate, it is creamy and full-bodied with a very fresh and long finish. The soul of this wine lies in the unique combination of grapes from the Fonte Cal and Rabo de Ovelha varieties, planted in granitic and schistose soils with veins of quartz.

Beyra

The Beyra Vinhas Velhas white originates from grapes of various varieties typical of Beira Interior and other regions: Fonte Cal, Síria, Rabo de Ovelha, and others. Concerning emblematic grape varieties of Beira Interior, Síria and Fonte Cal stand out. Síria is the variety most associated with the region by enthusiasts, and although it exists in other regions of Portugal, it reveals an unparalleled qualitative performance in the highlands of Beira, with incomparable purity, aromatic exuberance, and mouthwatering freshness. Perhaps even more characteristic is Fonte Cal, a local grape virtually nonexistent outside Beira Interior, increasingly chosen by producers as their first choice, thanks to the structure, creaminess, and elegance of the wines it produces.

Origin: Old vines planted in clay-schist soil around the village of Vermiosa, at an altitude exceeding 700 meters. The grapes that give rise to this wine are tasted in the plots very frequently before harvest, trying to obtain the best from each grape variety in the old vines and thus achieve a balance between them.

Vinification and ageing: Handpicked grapes. Fermentation and ageing with stirring of fine lees for six months in French oak barrels.

Rui Roboredo Madeira Vinhos

In one of the most remote areas of the Iberian Peninsula, on the border between the Douro Superior and Beira Alta regions, it was among family that its passion grew for the aromas and smells of this land that shapes our character.
After coming into contact with many cultures of living and making wine, in various parts of the globe, Rui Madeira returned to the great Douro valley convinced that they have the potential to make the best wines in the world.
Out of respect for nature, due to the way we cultivate their vineyards and wines reflect his experiences, which smell and taste of land, of schist, damp granite, rock rose, wild flowers and fruit.
It is in the winery that he makes wines with the character of our ‘terroir’, expressed through native grape varieties, which instil with a style of their own and an international profile.
