Quinta das Bágeiras
As a tribute to Abel Nuno, representing the second generation of Quinta das Bágeiras, we created Pai Abel in his image—wines with character that impress with their strong and full structure. Thus, we also wanted to prove to ourselves that it’s possible to make a great wine from vines that are “only” 15 years old, yet planted in an excellent terroir, mimicking the natural production of an old vineyard through a blend of grape varieties and reducing the yield of the younger vines.
This wine comes from vines about 15 years old, whose production has been drastically reduced. It was made by open fermentation, with the must placed in small decanting tanks of 1m³, where it stayed for 24 to 36 hours to undergo natural decanting through precipitation. After this process, it fermented in used French oak barrels that we sourced from the Burgundy region. A light bâtonnage was done, and it aged in the barrels until it became completely clear, naturally. Bottled without filtration or fining.
