O Produtor, tasting note published in April 12th 2019
Austere nose. Clear minerality with slight spice (saffron and nutmeg nuances). Nuances of dried fruit, paraffin and vegetable reflexes characteristic of the region. Creamy and wide mouth, slightly buttery and very textured. Fresh, long and extremely mineral finish.
Anselmo Mendes Beira Int. is a wine produced in the region of Beira Interior, sub-region of Cova da Beira. This region surrounded by Serra da Estrela, Marofa and Malcata is characterized by a harsh climate with negative temperatures in winter and very hot and dry summers. For this wine we used old vines with the Síria and Fonte Cal grape varieties, characterised by citrus aromas and by a unique freshness and minerality, fully implemented throughout the country’s border strip.
Grapes harvested manually in small boxes and transported to the winery in a short period of time. Total destemming. Soft pressing of whole destemmed grapes. Long cold clarification. Fermentation in 400 litres French oak barrels. Ageing for 9 months with regular bâtonnage on total lees. Ageing for 24 months in bottle, where it evolved positively.

Anselmo Mendes
Anselmo Mendes was born and grew up in Monção. It was then, as a child, that he became acquainted with the culture of the vine and wine production. The Alvarinho variety, and its wine produced there, immediately became a part of his life, to the extent that, today, Anselmo Mendes and Alvarinho are synonymous.
He graduated in Agro-Industrial Engineering in 1987, at the Higher Education Institute of the Technical University of Lisbon, and post-graduated in Oenology at the Catholic University six years later.
