Muros Antigos
Muros Antigos Escolha is made from the selection of three excellent white grape varieties: Alvarinho, Loureiro, and Avesso.
The Alvarinho grape comes from the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço. Due to the strategic location of this sub-region, the ideal conditions for the perfect maturation of the grapes are present. The presence of Alvarinho in Muros Antigos Escolha adds structure and body.
The Loureiro grape is grown in our vineyards in the Lima sub-region, with deep granite soils that are poor in organic matter. Due to the Atlantic influence in this region, freshness and salinity are prominent, as well as the characteristic floral perfume of the grape.
As for the Avesso grape, it comes from the Baião area, on the border between the continental climate of the Douro Valley and the maritime influence of the Douro Litoral. The soils are dry, poor, and sandy-gravelly with a granite base. These characteristics produce a wine with unique acidity and minerality, with a deep balance between acidity, minerality, and alcohol content, enriching Muros Antigos Escolha.
Winemaking: The grapes are hand-picked in small boxes and transported to the winery in a short period of time. Whole, destemmed grapes are pressed. Cold clarification at 12°C. Fermentation occurs at a controlled speed and temperature. A minimum of 3 months on fine lees with regular bâtonnage.
