O Produtor, tasting note published in April 25th 2018

Aroma: Intense ruby colour with aromas of red fruits and ripe fruit, associated with floral and wild notes. Spicy and balsamic notes. The great variety of grape varieties also contributes to a great variety of aromas.
Taste: Full-bodied wine, with volume and a natural acidity, freshness and mineral character well present. Long and intense finish, revealing great complexity of aromas in the mouth.
This wine can be drunk immediately or stored for several years. Its structure and freshness extend its storage capacity and gastronomic possibilities.

Vinification: The grapes came from a single plot with older vines (50 years old on average) whose vines were planted in the old Dão way. There are ten different Portuguese grape varieties, typical of the region, all blended together, which conditioned the vinification together as they were in the vineyard. The grapes are picked by hand and transported to the winery in small boxes. After manual bunch selection and destemming, the grapes are crushed by treading in granite presses, where fermentation also takes place. The maceration takes place in a delicate way to enhance all the typicality of these indigenous varieties, favouring the extraction of fruit and fresh tannins.
Ageing: 6 months in third use French oak barrels and the rest of the time in stainless steel. Before bottling, the wine is lightly clarified (with plant-derived products) and then filtered to maintain all its aromatic potential and structure. Stabilisation and most of the clarification is natural.

Kelman Vinhos

The Kelman Family Farm is located in Nelas, in the heart of the Dão region. It is in the square of this town that the Dão wine fair is held in September each year. Nelas also houses the Centro de Estudos Vitivinícolas do Dão, famous for the longevity of its wines.
The vineyard has 6 hectares which were planted in 2000 with traditional grape varieties, of which Touriga Nacionalrepresents about 50%. More recently, 1.5 hectares of old vines were incorporated into the property. The average altitude is 430 metres. The gentle slope and the sandy soil (decomposed granite) provide good drainage. Rainfall is 900 mm / year, concentrated mainly in winter. The temperature ranges from close to zero in winter to 30 degrees Celsius or more during summer. The diurnal temperature range is high (days can be hot, but nights are always cool). The conditions are ideal for the gradual ripening of the grapes and the freshness of the wines.
