O Produtor, tasting note published in May 16th 2023

With a vibrant medium gold color with a subtle bronze hue, the rum's character is accentuated by expressive aromas of raisins and vibrant notes of toasted oak, followed by hints of leather, spices, and tobacco. A well-balanced medium palate provides structure around flavors of rich sultana fruit with notes of creamy caramel and buttery oak. In the beginning, a sweet fruitiness of raisins, traversed by dry and tannic flavors from the oak barrels. A touch of herbaceous aromatic sweetness from the sugarcane distillate adds a unique, hedonistic yet balanced element to finish the rum.

Chairman's Reserve

The Chairman’s Reserve 1931 is a tribute to the philosophy and craftsmanship of rum established by its founder, Denis Barnard, when he founded his distillery in 1931, which has become one of the most cherished treasures of the island of Saint Lucia, the St. Lucia Distillers.

Blend and Maturation:
A perfect blend of Coffey and pot still rums, aged between 6 to 11 years in Bourbon and Port wine barrels. Most of the 1931 blend comes from traditional molasses rum, while the hidden courage of the alcohol is influenced by the inclusion of Lucian agricultural rum produced from freshly grown sugarcane in the fields adjacent to the distillery.

St. Lucia Distillers Group, ltd.

St. Lucia Distillers, which is now one of the most cherished treasures of the island of Saint Lucia, was founded by Denis Barnard in 1931.

In the mid-1990s, Laurie Barnard, the Chairman of St. Lucia Distillers, was determined to make a change: “If we want to export our rum, we need to be different; we need to have the tools to make great rum the old way. A column still and molasses are one-dimensional.” Thus began a journey that changed the landscape of the company with new planning for sugarcane cultivation and the acquisition of three pot stills to join the existing Coffey still. Always innovative, never content with mediocrity, and driven by a competitive spirit, Laurie propelled the idea of having a diversity of rums from different stills and aged in contrasting woods, so that the master blender would have a range of maturation profiles from which to create a great rum.
