O Produtor, tasting note published in June 6th 2023

A very elegant and complex aroma, very fresh, with vibrant red fruit and floral notes in harmony with a subtle hint of basil, very characteristic of Touriga Nacional. On the palate, the great freshness is highlighted in balance with very discreet notes from fermentation and barrel aging, marking the persistence of the finish with a certain richness.

Quinta da Pedra Escrita

For over 8 generations in my family, in 2007, I restored Quinta da Pedra Escrita. Thanks to the altitude and granite soils, very poor and arid, I wanted to revive the concept of Douro’s aged white wines, as it was done in the past…” – Rui Roboredo Madeira

Origin: Quinta da Pedra Escrita is located in Freixo de Numão, in the Upper Douro, at an average altitude of 575 meters. The dry and arid soils are predominantly granitic, sandy, and very nutrient-poor. The vineyard was planted here because we believe that granite soils at altitude give rise to wines with extremely complex aromas and great longevity, as in the past. This is a tradition we want to bring back to a world of increasingly stereotyped wines, emphasizing the unique character of high-altitude white wines from the Douro.

Winemaking: Grapes are harvested earlier than usual for a red wine to preserve acidity and a more open color. Manual harvesting, gentle pressing without destemming or crushing. Fermentation in 300-liter French barrels followed by aging with stirring of the fine lees until bottling.

Rui Roboredo Madeira Vinhos

In one of the most remote areas of the Iberian Peninsula, on the border between the Douro Superior and Beira Alta regions, it was among family that its passion grew for the aromas and smells of this land that shapes our character.
After coming into contact with many cultures of living and making wine, in various parts of the globe, Rui Madeira returned to the great Douro valley convinced that they have the potential to make the best wines in the world.
Out of respect for nature, due to the way we cultivate their vineyards and wines reflect his experiences, which smell and taste of land, of schist, damp granite, rock rose, wild flowers and fruit.
It is in the winery that he makes wines with the character of our ‘terroir’, expressed through native grape varieties, which instil with a style of their own and an international profile.
