Herdade do Esporão
The first Monte Velho harvest dates back to 1991 and reached the market for the first time in 1992, initially priced at 200 escudos. Inspired by the renowned Esporão Reserva, Monte Velho revolutionized daily wine consumption by bringing a quality wine to the table at an affordable price.
The story of Monte Velho is closely tied to the region it originates from, making it a quintessentially Alentejo wine with its diverse grape varieties and profile. The wines are crafted by the team led by Sandra Alves, combining nature, winemaking tradition, experience, and innovation, hallmarks of Esporão.
The 2023 agricultural year was hot and dry. The harvest was early and concentrated over a few weeks, with the optimal ripeness of various grape varieties quickly achieved, resulting in aromatic, intense wines with great complexity.
