H.O.
H.O. Matrona Rosé 2022 is born from the zonal selection of the Old Vines parcel “Matrona” located in Alvações do Corgo (Baixo Corgo) where there is a mixture of red and white grape varieties. With a west-facing solar exposure and schist and granite soils, the plot is located at an altitude of 400m, resulting in a unique harmony of depth and
freshness.
Matrona Rosé wine was produced with traditional Douro grape varieties: 30% Malvasia Preta, 20% Baga, 20% Touriga Franca, 15% Tinta Amarela, 10% Mourisco, and 5% of old white varieties from the Douro (Malvasia-Rei, Tamarez / Molinha…)
The viticultural year was hot and dry, leading to early harvests, starting on August 5th. These conditions were beneficial for quality and had little impact on quantity.
Winemaking: After manual harvesting, the grapes are transported in 18 kg capacity boxes so as not to damage the integrity of the cluster. Once in the winery, the boxes are unloaded onto a selection belt for the first sorting of the grapes. After destemming, the grapes are gravity-fed to a pneumatic press. After clarification of the musts, alcoholic fermentation began in oak barrels at low temperatures around 16°C, in order to preserve all the character and identity of the grape blend from this plot. Alcoholic fermentation lasted approximately 20 days.
Aging for 9 months in oak barrels with periodic bâtonnage.
Winemakers: João Rosa Alves and Tiago Alves de Sousa.
