ORIGIN: Vale de Cachapoal.
SOIL: Granitic origin, deep, porous, and well-drained.
CLIMATE: Hot Mediterranean, with maritime influence that moderates maximum temperatures.
AGING: For 26 months, 90% of the wine aged in barrels using the “Barroir” method, while the remaining 10% matured in clay amphorae, following the “Amphoir” method, with native yeasts from the “Fleuroir” program. The barrels were made on-site using Sylvain staves sourced from France, toasted locally in Chile, and the clay amphorae were made by a Chilean artisan.
VIK 2021 represents the peak of excellence, an iconic wine that reflects the unique identity of the vineyard. With 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, it expresses the essence of the most emblematic grape varieties of the estate. The 2021 vintage received a perfect score of 100 points from James Suckling, an extraordinary achievement for a winery with only 20 years of history.
Since its first harvest in 2010, commercially available from 2015, VIK has evolved, refining its profile. Initially produced with Merlot, Syrah, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, over the years the blend has been refined, culminating in the sophisticated and balanced expression of the 2021 vintage. This wine was meticulously crafted by winemaker Cristian Vallejo (who previously worked at Château Margaux and Château Berliquet in Bordeaux) and his team.
“Intense graphite with fresh notes of lavender, thyme, rosemary, and black currant. Hints of decadence. Iodine and mussel undertones. Full-bodied with superb intensity and silky tannins that expand on the palate, showing great persistence that lingers for minutes. Truly remarkable depth. 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon. The best ever. 4,800 bottles were made. This wine needs five to seven years to integrate. Drink from 2029.” – James Suckling
