Robert Parker, tasting note published in December 10th 2019
I was surprised by the aromatics of the 2010 Vega Sicilia Único, harvested from a powerful and concentrated year that delivered this blend of 94% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 14.5% alcohol and a high pH of 3.87. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels and 20,000 litre oak vats and aged for almost six years. It feels quite ripe and somehow old, dominated by ripe black fruit, with a rustic, earthy touch. It has a broad, concentrated and powerful palate, with some earthy tannins.
Vega Sicilia Único 2010 is a wine for all eternity. Only a handful of terroirs around the world are able to match the extraordinary ageing capacity of the wine. This is a wine of inimitable style, ripe, tremendously elegant and silky, in which the ageing process brings the mystique of the essence to the surface.
