Vallado

The Vallado Alicante Bouschet red wine originates in the Douro Superior, the Douro sub-region with the lowest vineyard planting density, mainly due to the difficult accesses of the past and the scarcity of labor, but which is now considered one of the most promising terroirs in the Douro.

The grapes come from Quinta do Orgal in Castelo Melhor – Vila Nova de Foz Côa, where, to this day, 35 hectares of vineyards have been planted and organic farming is practiced. After the launch in 2016 of the first wine made exclusively from the organic vineyards of Quinta do Orgal, the 2021 harvest of Alicante Bouschet red wine emerged in 2023.

Vinification: The grapes were destemmed and vinified in 10-ton stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature and programmed pumping over. Certified organic vinification.

Aging: After malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to used French oak barrels of 225 liters, where it remained for about 16 months. Bottled in July 2023.

Winemaking: Francisco Olazabal & Francisco Ferreira.
