O Produtor, tasting note published in March 27th 2021

Intense ruby colour. Complex, rich and intense nose: notes of rock-rose, resin, eucalyptus, clove and fresh red fruit (blackcurrant and cherry). In the mouth, great texture and volume, wrapped in a fresh and mineral acidity.

Titan of Douro

In the Valley of the Thousand (Vale dos Mil), integrating a fantastic mosaic of great natural beauty, on the slopes of the Távora River, we find the century-old vines of the Titan of Douro. These vines were planted over a hundred years ago, with a blend of various red and white grape varieties, grown in bush vine style, at altitudes of 750 to 850 meters, facing southeast on granite, quartz, and rolled pebble soils; a prime terroir that results in the production of iconic and unique wines in the Demarcated Region of Douro.

Vineyard management is a commitment to viticulture focused on ecosystem balance, setting aside chemicals and any form of mechanization, ensuring the sustainability of the “terroir” and the surrounding biodiversity.

Fresh grapes at their optimal ripeness, handpicked in 20 kg crates, are transported to the winery where they undergo a meticulous manual selection, destemming, and foot treading in granite lagares, fermenting with indigenous yeasts. At the end of fermentation, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels where it ages for 16 months.

Enjoy it with intensely flavored dishes such as game, wood-fired roasts, or cheeses.

Luís Leocádio Vinhos - Titan of Wines

From the beginning, the work has always focused on the search for old vines in the most genuine and less explored places, where there are new stories to be told in the form of wine.

It was at the foot of Serra do Reboredo (1,000 meters altitude), in Paredes da Beira, at the highest point of the Douro, that everything began, giving birth to the brand “Titan of Douro”. Surrounded by abundant granite outcrops, the area has sandy granite soils interspersed with quartz veins, an altitude between 700 – 1,000 meters, located on the slopes of the Rio Távora, and possesses an enviable heritage of century-old vineyards, untouched over time and maintained by the weathered hands of years of hard work over generations. This results in wines of great freshness, character, and identity!

Currently, the project has grown, and Luís Leocádio launches:

“Titan of Beira Interior”, a concept focused on single varietals in various vinification and aging formats.

“Titan of Távora-Varosa”, born from a passion for the region, both for its proximity and inspiration from Aquilino Ribeiro’s novel “Terras do Demo”; a region of excellence for producing the best sparkling wines in Portugal, where we wanted to do things differently and highlight still wines, with a mineral, fresh, and unique character, affectionately called “Sparkling wines without bubbles”.

“Titan of Porto”, where the winemaker becomes a true maestro, skillfully combining different lots to create a wine that is more than the sum of its parts – it is an unparalleled sensory experience and a journey of discovery and experimentation, where each lot is carefully selected and combined to create a unique expression of flavor, aroma, and character that captivates the senses and fuels dreams.
