Textura da Estrela
Tinta Pinheira or Rufete is a grape variety scarcely planted in Portugal but found in some vineyards in the Dão region. It has medium-sized clusters but with a lot of juice, and ripening is late. The Textura da Estrela Tinta Pinheira wine is of an open color, with lots of red fruit and open color, good acidity but very delicate.
The vineyard is located in the Serra da Estrela sub-region, is 35 years old, and sits at an altitude of 450 meters on granite soils. 2021 had a very cold winter with snow at medium altitudes and ended with plenty of rain. Budbreak began in April, and spring was generally mild, with some hail episodes in the Dão region, without affecting production/quality. The summer was cool, making grape ripening slow and resulting in higher acidity levels at harvest, despite rain episodes. It’s a year with increased production compared to 2020 but with greater freshness and natural acidity, giving the wines a generally more elegant profile.
Vinification and aging: 30% whole cluster and destemmed grapes. Fermentation in stainless steel lagar with little extraction. Aged in 225 L barrels for 16 months. Bottled in March 2023.
Winemaking: Luís Seabra and Mariana Salvador.
