Textura da Estrela
Textura da Estrela Tinto is a very typical wine that reflects its genuine terroir and “sense of place.” It comes from three different vineyard plots, all located in Vila Nova de Tazem (Serra da Estrela sub-region), with vines around 25 to 60 years old, planted in granitic soils, and in conversion to organic certification since 2020, with production never exceeding 4.5 tons per hectare. In 2020, the blend consisted of Jaen (40%), Touriga Nacional (30%), and Alfrocheiro (30%).
Year 2020: The manual harvest took place in late September, in a year where winter was generous with rain, followed by a warm February that anticipated vine budding. A spring marked by some frosts eventually reduced the quantity of grapes at harvest. The summer was generally cool but featured two weeks of very hot days and nights. To ensure freshness, the harvest was advanced by about 15 days, and picking was accelerated. On average, yields decreased, and the wines generally have a less fruity profile but remain equally fresh and elegant.
Vinification: This is a low-intervention wine with short pump-overs during the first days of fermentation and a post-fermentation maceration that brings great complexity and elegance. Textura da Estrela 2020 red wine fermented naturally in a wooden vat with 30% whole clusters, followed by 30 days of cuvaison. It was aged in a large barrel and used French oak barrels for 15 months. Naturally stabilized. Bottled in May 2022.
Oenology: Luís Seabra and Mariana Salvador.
